In embracing reality it is important that we learn to deal with our fears and not let them take over our lives. Not only can fears drive a negative mindset, they can also stop us achieving our full potential in life.
There are some ways which you can learn to use your fears to positive effect rather than let them drive negative behaviours and decisions.
First, make a list of your fears – the things that give you stress and anxiety.
For example:
Fear of being a bad parent
Fear of people thinking I can’t do my job well.
Ways to learn to deal with our fears
Next let’s think about trying to do at least some of the following:
*Accepting fears as a part of reality
*Recognising limiting beliefs and negative stories you are telling yourself
*Training your mind to see fear as part of the opportunity to change and grow positively as a person
*Focusing on a positive mindset to push into fear whilst trying to help others
*Accepting that you can’t change reality but you can control how you react to it
A few techniques which might help:
*Reframing the thing you fear as a positive opportunity to learn and grow – for example, take some feedback on your performance from a work colleague that you perceive as been negative; Reflect on the feedback and take a different perspective, ask yourself how you can use this feedback in a positive way to improve your performance; See this as an opportunity rather than a threat.
*Switching from negative self-talk to positive – if you are constantly having self-dialogue with yourself which is reinforcing your fears then start to train your mind to have a more positive dialogue. For example, if you never feel you are doing the right thing for your kids then every day use positive affirmations, tell yourself you can do the thing you fear. Say to yourself: ‘I am a good parent’; ‘I love my children and do the best for them I can’.
