Images of types of technology that distract us

Is the future of technology distraction?

With tech entrepreneurs and the mega rich backing ways of escaping reality is it time to ask the question: Is the future of technology distraction?

Have we given up on enjoying what we already have on Earth..?

Creating virtual versions of reality risks us ignoring the wonderful planet we already live on and focusing on how we can all work together to make living on it a more positive experience. Humans will struggle to create anything as complex and beautiful as the real world we are already lucky enough to inhabit.

Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) also try to recreate what we already have. The irony is that whilst many of us try to come to terms with the brave new world AI may present and how we can see it as a positive thing, we haven’t mastered our own minds to work to their best.

Space tourism and the race to mars is the ultimate rejection of the reality of living on planet Earth. The space race is the dream of the mega rich who can afford to dream of spending their spare time in space and jetting off not to Spain for a few weeks in the sun but to Mars for an intergalactic holiday.

The Internet of Things (IoT) and proliferation of digital devices mean that everything is connected 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. But how long do we spend a day staring at our screens, ironically living vicariously looking at other people projecting images of living wonderful lives on social media.

All of the above risk taking human beings further away from each other and leaving us feeling lonely and lacking in the social interaction most of us crave.

Technology is a wonderful thing when we focus on using it to enrich the life on Earth we already have and stop accepting that it has to be about distracting us from reality.

Make reality better and reject distractions. Shaping the real world and the relationships you have is something everyone can master and benefit from – you don’t need a space rocket or 10 billion dollars of capital!
